If you’re always looking for ways that you can put your crafty crochet skills to good use, good news – you can use your craft to help nurse animals back to health.
Wildlife Rescue Nests is a non-profit project that provides information on animal rescue centres around the world that are in need of woolly nests. These are used to comfort injured creatures as they recover, and many around the UK are asking for your donations.
Our two FREE nest patterns here include a round nest and a hanging cave. A tight tension is vital when working them to ensure that tiny toes and claws don’t get caught in the stitches.
Before you start, register online (see below) and check the strict guidelines.
HOW TO SEND YOUR NEST
1 Sign up as a volunteer at wildliferescuenests.org
2 Look at the Volunteer Guide, which contains vital information on how to contruct your nest safely for wildlife.
3 Once signed up, you will see a link to mailing addresses around the world, listing the type of nests each rescue centre is in need of. Check which nests are required when preparing your parcel and be sure to only send the specified type, as centres update Wildlife Rescue Nests when they’ve received enough.
4 After you send your nest, register it using the online form so the tally sheet is updated accurately, allowing more centres to benefit from your handiwork
Once you register as a member, you’ll receive access to their free pattern archive, mailing lists and volunteer guide.
