In a new Kickstarter campaign, JS Shoes has designed the first-ever 3D knitted shoe and are asking for funding so they can take the shoe market by storm with the innovative design.
We LOVE all things knitted and crocheted, so when we heard about the first 3D knitted shoe we couldn't help but get the low-down on this fascinating technology. Good for the environment, stylish AND making use of our favourite craft... well, how can we resist?
With this shoe, the use of 3D knitting reduces the layers to a minimum so that actually, it doesn't have a mid-sole or any stitches! The shoe only includes a knitted upper, an out sole, and cushion.
BEST FOOT FORWARD
The making of these knitted shoes allows for a wonderful 'buy-one-by-one' strategy. Customers are able to purhcase one shoe at a time to create a custom pair, which is especially useful for those with one foot slightly larger than the other – and those who like to mix and match, and choose different colours for each individual shoe.
This shoemaking process means that each shoe is packed individually in a cylindrical shoe box, so they can be sent one at a time, with display information about the colour, size, and left/right.
FRIENDLY TO THE EARTH
3D knitting is a very new technology. Knitting machinery knits the shoes using a 3D method, to produce the exact amount of materials for each shoe and eleminate the chance of waste. It also follows an environmentally friendly process, where energy-saving carbon reduction makes the workplace safer for factory workers safer – meaning an 80% reduction compared to tradition production lines.
